  सत्यवती महाभारत का एक महत्वपूर्ण पात्र है।  उनका विवाह हस्तिनापुर के महाराज शांतनु से हुआ था।  सत्यवती के जन्म का रहस्य -  ब्रह्मा के शाप से मछली के आकार के सर्गलोक की अप्सरा अद्रिका और राजा अपरिचर बसु के शुक्राणु से एक कन्या का जन्म हुआ।  बाद में इसका नाम 'सत्यवती' रखा गया।  दासराज नाम के मछुआरे के जाल में बड़ी मछली फंसने पर मछली का पेट फट गया और एक लड़का और एक लड़की बाहर निकल गए।  राजा ने लड़के को अपने पुत्र के रूप में स्वीकार कर लिया, लेकिन लड़की के शरीर से मछली की गंध आने के कारण राजा ने उसे नाविक को दे दिया।  उन्होंने अपने पिता की सेवा में यमुना पर नाव का संचालन किया।  एक दिन महर्षि पराशर मुनि नदी पार करने के लिए सत्यवती की नाव पर चढ़े और सत्यवती के विराट रूप पर मुग्ध होकर उन्होंने सत्यवती के साथ मिलन की इच्छा की, लेकिन एक कुंवारी महिला के साथ संभोग करने पर आपत्ति जताई।  पराशर मुनि कहते हैं सत्यवती तुम कोई साधारण महिला नहीं हो तुम और हमारा बच्चा भारत का एक नया अध्याय शुरू करेगा।  सत्यवती ने उनकी बात मान ली, और सत्यवती और पराश...
